Burton Week Racing Underway Now Gales Have Blown Through
Sadly very strong winds, gusting up to 45 knots, prevented racing on the opening day of Burton Week 2016 being hosted by Brightlingsea Sailing Club from 19 to 23 August.
The original plan for today (Sunday) was to race the historic Sir William Burton Cup. Although the wind has moderated to sub 20 knots and the fleet has gone afloat to race, conditions are still quite lively so the decision was made to postpone the Burton Cup until tomorrow when conditions are due to be much more moderate. Race Officer Dave Charlton is hoping to be able to run two races today, races 1 and 2 of the series.
This evening the fleet will gather in the club for the annual Burton Week Dinner. The crews will be gathering from 19.30 with dinner served at 20.00.
